Tibet is a province of China and borders on  India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar (Burma) and includes a portion of Mt. Everest .   On July 1, 2006, a train from Beijing to Lhasa opened and it is the world's highest train climbing to nearly 5,000 meters (16,500 feet).

The Potala Palace in Lhasa was the residence of the Dalai Lama until he left China in1959.
